The form of artistic decoration in which the rhythmic linear patterns such as plain lines are combines with other elements. It is also called foliage ornaments and is used widely in the Islamic world. In foliage ornament leaves and spiralling stems are combined. It generally consist one design that is repeated many times. It is basic element of Islamic Art and developed with the tradition of Islam. Art historians divide the development of elements of arabesque decoration in two phases, first from ninth century on wards and the European art renaissance on wards.
