Answer: The different sizes of the Sun and the Moon are almost completely canceled out by their different distances.

Explanation:

The sun is about 400 times larger than the moon, but the sun is also about 400 times farther away. This means that the moon and sun appear to be roughly the same size in the sky from our viewpoint.
