It lets good things in and keeps bad things out. Water travels through its pores by the process of osmosis, the diffusion of water. This is a form of passive transport. Larger particles, such as glucose, must use active transport. It uses endocytosis to travel in and exocytosis to be exported. It travels in vesicles across the cell membrane.
